Scary, and Unsurprising

Ambrose Bierce said, "War is God's way of teaching Americans geography." Exhibit 1.

U.A.E. = deployment point for troops invading Iran. Q.E.D.

UPDATE, MARCH 9: Reader Christopher has a good post up about how Dubai intends to spank the U.S. for blocking the ports deal. Query: what happens if the only port large enough to dock aircraft carriers, and which sits at the narrows of the Straits of Hormuz, decides not to cooperate with an American attack on Iran?

thersites, this article by Mike Franklin is a must read for everyone. I am circulating it and posted it on Glenn's site. It's not going to matter a whole lot who wins in November if we attack Iran before then, because the ensuing damage will be so great that it alone will no doubt bring down this country, forget about our fascist dictatorship.

The only trouble I have with accepting Mike's thesis is that if we needed the UAE as a launching pad to attack Iran, why are the Republicans going against the President on this deal? It's naive to think any of the Republicans care more about public opinion than they do about not crossing Bushco. They are only rebelling because they have Karl Rove's permission to do so, to help them out in the November elections.

Of course the Port deal hasn't gone through yet. And maybe it's irrelevant to the President whether it does or not. If Bushco wants to use the UAE as a launching pad, it will do so, whether or not the Port deal goes through. The Bushes and the Clintons and all the rest of our power elite are chummy enough with the emirates to forge any deal they want with that group.

What's your take?
