Ned Lamont Announces. Joe Lieberman Is Going Down.

Ned Lamont has finally, officially announced his candidacy for Senate from Connecticut, challenging uber-Vichy Joe Lieberman for the Democratic nomination. If we're ever going to win a battle, it must be this one: Lieberman is not merely conservative, but an enabling conservative of the worst kind, constantly breaking from the Democratic caucus to give aid and comfort to Bush and his cronies. Joe supports the Iraq war. Joe supported allowing the UAE to operate U.S. ports. Joe appears WEEKLY on Hannity's show. Joe opposed the Alito filibuster. Joe kissed George Bush on the cheek, for gaw sake! And as frosting on the cake, today Joe committed not one but two Vichy acts:

1) He denounced Russ Feingold's resolution to censure George Bush for authorizing warrantless surveillance of American citizens, saying he wasn't inclined to "scold" the President.

2) He announced his opposition to a Connecticut initiative to require that hospitals who treat rape victims offer those victims birth control (some religious hospitals don't, imposing their moral views on patients who should be receiving sound medical advice at a critical time). Joe's take? Lieberman said he believes hospitals that refuse to give contraceptives to rape victims for "principled reasons" shouldn't be forced to do so. "In Connecticut, it shouldn't take more than a short ride to get to another hospital," he said.

So: got raped in Connecticut? Ambulance took you to one of the 20% of CT hospitals that refuse to offer rape victims contraception? Suck it up, tough it out, take a cab somewhere else.

Hey hey, ho ho, Holy Joe has got to go. Contribute to Lamont's campaign here.

Would it be too crude to start referring to Holy Joe as "Neville Lieberman"?

Yeah, but that's probably not going to stop me.

When I read what he said about rape victims and Catholic hospitals I just wanted to puke. Why doesn't he just become a Republican and be done with it?
