The Vichy 19. Do Any Of These Have A Really Good Excuse? I'm Really Asking.

The 19 Democrats who voted against the filibuster were: Daniel Akaka (Hawaii), Max Baucus (Mont), Jeff Bingaman (N.M.), Robert Byrd (W. Va.), Maria Cantwell (Wash.), Thomas Carper (Del.), Kent Conrad (N.D.), Byron Dorgan (N.D.), Daniel Inouye (Hawaii), Tim Johnson (S.D.), Herb Kohl (Wis.), Mary Landrieu (La.), Joseph Lieberman (Conn.), Blanche Lincoln (Ark.), Bill Nelson (Fla.), Ben Nelson (Neb.), Mark Pryor (Ark.), John D. Rockefeller (W. Va.) and Ken Salazar (Colo.).

Maybe the fact that never in U.S. history has the Senate filibustered a SCOTUS nominee that enjoiyed majority support?

Just a thought.

Oh, here's another excuse: someday there will be a Democratic president again, and he/she will nominate a person for associate justice.

You really could ask your average high school civics student. Maybe you should.

Is it 18 or 19? Bob Fertik is saying 18...?

19, as I read it. I'm still trying to get the whole roll call.

I've got Kent Conrad on my list... could be that I'm wrong, I just lifted it off a news site in the absence of an official roll call.

I can tell you Bill Nelson's reason: he wants to run for governor after Jeb Bush's term limit is up. Perhaps he thinks he'll get more votes if he toes the line of the Joe Lieberman crowd.

Oh, and Jal, I thought the whole point of nominating conservative executive power types to the Supreme Court was designed to prevent any future Democratic Presidents. Wasn't that how 2000 panned out?

Hope you guys keep publishing this blog--the traitor Dems need to stay outed.

Was that supposed to be an insult? You betray your own knee-jerk bias with that comment. What serious Republican has ever said anything like that? Only liberals think the courts control (or ought to control) society. Check the Constitution, please; legislatures make the laws, not judges.

Write your senators and representative and demand they increase the minimum wage.

Next time you fax, email or call a senator or representative, include this in with your demand:

Until the legislation or action I demand gets done I will boycott products from Republican contributors Walmart, Wendy’s, Outback Steak House, Dominos Pizza, Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Eckerd, CVS and Walgreens, Curves for women health clubs, GE and Exxon/Mobil.

What serious Republican has said anything that resembles their de facto agenda of establishing a "unitary executive", free to make new laws and ignore existing laws at whim? The constitution? How quaint.
