Anyone know why Hagel abstained? Was it intentional, or was he stuck somewhere? (Heck, I probably blogged about it sometime in the last 72 hours, but I have no recollection!)

Also, I'll be posting more about the Gang of 14 and how, basically, they've sold the family farm to a strip-mining company in exchange for jobs in that mine. According to the Omaha World-Herald both Chuck Hagel and Tom Harkin were traveling and unavailable to vote.
Sergei: all dems to the RIGHT of Lieberman? I'd put the line on the other side: Lieberman and all dems to the right of him.
And maybe even farther left than that!!

As to Hegel and Harkin, I wonder whether those were ways to abstain, or really unavoidable travel? Especially since there are reports that someone threatened to "out" a R senator if he supported Alito... might that one have avoided the issue by just staying away? I'm honestly not suggesting anything -- I have no idea -- but I'm wondering what motivates people. Should both be thanked, or not?
The Omaha paper didn't give any further details on why's or where's. Hagel was on the set with George S. on Sunday Morning.
He did vote today, so who knows, but since he votes with the president 94% of the time, I see no reason to think he would have voted in favor of continuing the filibuster.
